Shooting

Driven pheasant shooting is available from October to the end of January.  The drives are laid out to make the best use of the topography, especially the river valleys.  We make as much use of cover crops as possible, 46 acres have been planted in three mixes including Kale, Maize, Triticale, Tick Beans, Sweet Clover and Phacella.  We expect this to make a considerable difference to our ability to hold birds and also the quality of their presentation to the guns.

The day will start at 09:30 with tea, coffee and biscuits in the shoot rooms.  There will be a safety briefing and guns will draw pegs, moving off around 09:50 to be on stand for 10 o'clock.  We expect to shoot 3 to 4 drives before lunch with a mid morning break of sausages and soup.

Various packages are available with or without lunch.  If provided lunch will consist of  a main course, pudding, cheese and coffee; wine is also included for those who request it.

There are normally 2 drives after lunch depending on light and the ‘quality' of the lunch.  Most days will wind up between 3:30pm and 4pm, at which point the guns will return to the shoot rooms for afternoon tea and a dram for those who are not driving.

Arrangements with neighbouring estates give guests the opportunity of additional days shooting at pheasant, partridge, woodcock, snipe and duck using Drenagh as a base.
